Centre of Excellence for Music

We are thrilled to announce the start of a new partnership with the Christchurch Symphony Orchestra to create a Centre of Excellence for Music.

Medbury has long enjoyed a relationship with the CSO and has a number of boys already involved in CSO Ambassadors, NXT Gen Think Tank and Accelerando Strings. Many of our current Itinerant Music Teachers play in the CSO.

Through this partnership, our boys will have the opportunity to refine their skills under the guidance of world class seasoned professionals, and showcase their talents at collaborative concerts.

What the Centre of Excellence for Music offers your son:

Expert Mentorship — Your son will work directly with musicians from the CSO, enhancing his performance and ensemble playing skills through personalised mentorship.

Interactive Workshops He will participate in regular workshops aimed at improving his ensemble playing skills, guided by experienced CSO musicians.

Leadership Development — For those interested in leadership, there are opportunities to become CSO Ambassadors or join the NXT Gen Think Tank, where he can contribute ideas to shape the future of the Symphony Orchestra’s programs.

Performance Opportunities — He will have numerous opportunities to showcase his talent through instrumental group performances at Medbury and in CSO programs, including Accelerando Strings.

Comprehensive Instrumental Tuition — Your son will have access to a wide range of instrumental lessons on site, with instrumental tuition also integrated into the classroom curriculum.

What our boys are saying about the programme:

“The last CSO Workshop was amazing, I had lots of fun. The Workshop consisted of percussion, strings, woodwinds and brass. My favourite part was practicing the timpani with my friends. I learnt how to play the timpani properly and how to listen to everyone in the orchestra while playing.”
Matthew, Year 7.

“Working with Margo and Thomas was a delight because they are incredible at music and they taught me a lot of things about woodwind and brass instruments.
I learned that just before you come in to play the flute, you need to breathe for a whole bar so that you can play for longer.”
Pax, Year 6.

“I enjoyed having the experience to play with professionals and having them helping me gave me a boost of confidence”
Maddox, Year 6.

“The Think Tank has helped me discover the technical parts of all genres of music, from classical to modern. It is also something that I would look forward to during the week and since the meeting comes once every two months, it is something to treasure.”
Will, Year 7.
